Restoration

I purchased the car in 1979 with some body damage on the right side of the car. At that time I owned a shop that did restorations and one of the guys that use to work for me was a driver and mechanic at Sears Point with Bondurant. He built and raced Formula Fords - even setting the track record. When we repaired the car we used all new factory metal. He set up the suspension when we were done so I knew it was right on.

I drove the car on weekends and evenings and occasionally to impress clients. Having a 928 was a nice way of building credibility. In 1985 due to family obligations I put it in storage.

Having some free time I decided in 1999 to put it back on the road.

Since July 1999 this is what has been done to the car.

All new brakes - fluid flush, turned rotors, new pads and sensors, new hoses on the rear - fronts looked fine when inspected. The emergency brake bands have been inspected and are in good shape.

Replaced the gas tank and most of the gas lines, new fuel accumulator and replaced fuel filter, tank screen and fuel pump.

New water system - The radiator has been damaged by the agency when I first got the car when they changed the water pump. This had been patched - but I decided since I had a new one to replace it. All new water hoses, thermostat, water pump, Timing belt and all of the pulleys. The coolant is the special aluminum safe type with red line water wetter and the thermostat is the low temp one with a new electric fan switch in the radiator. The car never overheated and runs cool even in stop and go traffic in 100 degree weather, but the hoses were old and I wanted to have reliability.

Rebuilt alternator.

Repack CV joints with new boots.

New plugs, filters and cap and rotor. The wires are the ones that came on the car but do not show any signs of sparks at night.

New Clutch master cylinder and hoses. The clutch is the same one that came with the car and there are no problems with it. The transmission shifts smooth and does not have the typical syncro grind up or down.

The interior is near flaw less - no dash or pod cracks. There are a couple of cuts and scratches, but I have replacement parts for all of these and have not had time to change them out. There are no warning lights problems and everything electrical works.  A/C works great.

The car drives and runs great.

The paint is top notch on most of the car. While in storage the drivers door got scratched. The paint on the two rear quarters has some flaws from the original job. So I planed on having the two rear quarters and drivers door redone. This is probably the single biggest thing left to do to make the car 100%.

The color is Dark Brown - almost black with a caramel interior.

The tires are good - at least 50+% and as shown it has flat rims while the original Phone Dials are out for polishing.

Mileage: under 50K

Price - open.  I am not in a hurry to sell the car as I would like to make it 100%.  But as is $9500 with the final details and paint $13,500.
