Installing a New InteriorShortly after purchasing the convertible, I had the opportunity to purchase a perfect Dove Gray Interior. While I had located the interior, it took a while to complete the negotiations. During this period I used to the time to correct a number of other shortcoming on the convertible. Most of this involved wiring issues with add on products and so is not documented here. The process of replacing the old interior with the upgraded S4 interior is covered on the following pages including pictures. While some of the items are specific to the convertible and will not apply to those of you that want to do a similar upgrade they are thrown in for interest. The Dove Gray interior on the 928 is not completely gray. The dash, console, pod and door panels are black. The interior I purchased had the upgraded leather panels but not the dash. This is a nice combination as the vinyl dash and pod hold up better to the California sun than the leather, but the side panels of leather are a nice touch. I had thought about having the dash covered in leather by a custom upholstery shop but decided against it for now. The original interior was nice, but sun damaged the tops of the door panels, cracked the pod. Some wear on the drivers seat bolster, a tear in the passenger seat bottom and no rear seats all combined to make the car less than a 10. The trunk being mostly ignored was a mess. New Interior InstalledHere are some pictures with the new interior installed. From the pictures it is hard to see the detail differences. Notice the cover over the cracked pod in the before picture. |
