Manual Transmission

Porsche used two different manual transmissions in the 928.  Pre 1985 cars had a Porsche designed Syncro System that was prone to wear - especially the second gear.   After 1985 Porsche licensed the Borg Warner system.  The later transmissions were smoother and more durable.

Porsche offered a number of different final drive ratios based on country of delivery and year model.  They also offered a variety of optional limited slip differentials depending on year model ending with an electronically controlled system in the GTS.
